Kristina Drzal Houghton, CPA, MSTPartner-in-Charge of Taxation
Kris is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Massachusetts and Connecticut who holds a Master's degree in Taxation, and is the Partner-in-Charge of Taxation for the firm. She has many years of concentrated tax experience in public accounting. Her extensive track record in the field includes multi-state taxation, tax filings for affiliated groups, exempt organizations and unrelated business income tax issues, as well as tax compliance and planning for closely held businesses. Kris’s clients come from such fields as service, retail, medical, transportation, manufacturing, hospitality, insurance and tax-exempt industries.
Kris joined Meyers Brothers in 1995. Before that, she was a tax manager for Coopers & Lybrand, 1985-94, and a tax specialist for Deloitte Haskins & Sells, Hartford, 1984-85.
Kris is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants and she also serves on the CPAmerica Executive Tax Advisory Board.
Kris is a member of both the National Association of Professional Women and the Springfield Chapter of the Women President Organization. She is heavily active in the Greater Springfield community as sponsor representative and executive board member of the UMass Family Business Center, treasurer of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra and the Springfield Tax Club, and former treasurer of the Spirit of Springfield. Kris has also served as treasurer and assistant treasurer of the Kiwanis Club of Springfield and is currently a member of the board of directors of the Springfield Boys & Girls Club.
Kris received her Master of Science degree in Taxation from Bentley College in 1987 and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from American International College in 1984.
Kris is the leader of two Girl Scout Troops: Troop 176, which includes four Cadettes who are working on their Silver Award; and Troop 129 a Brownie Troop with 20 second-grade girls. The troops are very active and run many unit events for the unit. She tells the girls that there is nothing you can't do if you put your mind to it. Additionally, Kris teaches second-grade faith formation for St Mary's in Longmeadow.
